Peristyle is one of the most monumental architectural components of Diocletian Palace in Split, and beyond.
Peristyle includes open space in the center of the palace framed by columns. From the Peristyle one can be access the imperial house. Between the central pillars located on the south side of there was an imperial box, it was ment for special occasions such as when the emperor would appear to receive honors from the residents of the palace. On the eastern side of the Peristyle in the Middle Ages Split Cathedral was built, for which was a monumental tower built in the 13th and 14 century, which is one of the symbols of the city of Split. Space Peristyle is an excellent stage for theatrical and musical performances of the Split Summer Festival, which takes place every year from mid July to mid August. Today, the peristyle is one of the main places in town for tourist gatherings and meeting points, you can also get all the necessary information about the city on the Peristyle in the tourist info center, or drink coffee and take a refreshing drink in the cafe LVXOR. On the Peristyle during the summer months you can rent a tourist guide or see young men dressed as Roman soldiers, and take a picture with, you may find yourself listening to on of the Acappella groups sing if you're lucky, or you can check out the Split Cathedral and climb the tower of St. Duje for only 10kn and take a glimpse of the city from a height of 60 meters, and take a few beautiful photos if you have a camera with you.
